QUALITY HORSE CARE, EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONALS, EXCELLENT FACILITY & TOP NOTCH INSTRUCTORS! To Whom It May Concern: If you want your horses treated like your dogs and your children come to Sandy Bay Stables! Krissie and Danny have created a safe, clean and attractive horse environment where each horse is treated as an individual. Krissie and Danny both have lots of horse experience, they really love their horses and they treat my horse as though he were theirs. Senior horses get senior feed, weights are watched, supplements may be recommended, and the hay is always beautiful. Turnout is every day, all day (weather permitting) and the social groups are monitored. A four acre grass pasture has been leased where all get to graze. Needless to say that has been a huge success. Our Olympic size regularly maintained indoor arena means that you can keep your horse exercised year round and in any weather. We have access to woodland trails without having to go on streets. I may be sixty-two and my pony is twenty-two, but we still benefit from taking lessons with one of our knowledgeable and enthusiastic instructors. Skye and I have been at Sandy Bay Stables for just under a year and it is our home. Come and see all the happy horses at Sandy Bay Stables. Krissie and Danny will be as friendly and supportive of your life with horses as they have been with mine. Sincerely, Lynn Carrigan, Rockport |
| PART OF A "FAMILY!" "My experience at Sandy Bay Stables has been amazing. The atmosphere is very welcoming. The staff is kind and very helpful. I have learned so much in just a little time. When I go to Sandy Bay Stables I feel like I'm part of a large family." -Angela Beverly, MA |
| SUPPORTIVE, FRIENDLY & ACCEPTING ENVIRONMENT "My daughter, Ciara had her first riding lesson when she was three years old. She immediately fell in love with riding and horses and has been taking lessons since that time. It has not always been easy for Ciara because she has learning disabilities. Also, she does not have the athletic abilities that her brother and sister possess. However, she can learn and does well in a structured, supportive environment. She has found this place at Sandy Bay Stables. She was warmly welcomed and has felt part of the farm since she started. She has a fun experience each week during her lesson. Her instructor, Dana, encourages her to learn more and continues helping her until she masters it. Also, planning other events, such as the Halloween Party and yoga class for the riders and their families is fun and creates a bond between all the riders. Thank you, Krissie, for keeping Sandy Bay Stables as part of our community and giving people of all ages and abilities a place to ride. Jonda Weir , Rockport 2008 |
"LIKE SECOND HOME" "My daughter has had a wonderful riding experience at Sandy Bay Stables, she has really enjoyed the teachers that have spent their time being patient and consistent and gently pushing her along to improve. Even though she is too young to be working at the stables the owner found ways to have her be involved and let her be a helper at the farm taking care of their new kittens. We have had a wonderful experience, it is a second home for her." Katie Harrington Lanesville, MA |
A LOCAL TREASURE! "I am an adult that has been taking lessons at Sandy Bay Stables for more than 2 yeas. Everyone is friendly, supportive and interested in being helpful. The horses are wonderful and the instructors are top quality. But what makes the place special is the involvement of the owners, Krissie and Danny, in everything that goes on at the farm. They really care about the horses and the farm community they are creating. This is a special treasure in Rockport for kids of all ages!" Leslie Kagan, Rockport |
Sandy Bay Stables - FIRST RATE! "Sandy Bays' facilities are excellent. The indoor areana is well maintained as is the rest of the stables. The horse turn-out paddocks are great, particularly the multi-acre pasture behind the barn. Sandy Bay's riding instructor, Dana Kiser, is first-rate. Never in my 10+ years of taking lessons and watching my daughter take lessons, have I seen an instructor that is so attentive and focused on her students during their lessons." Laura Ryan, Rockport |
"Krissie- Thanks so much for the photos and music too!!! The girls had a great day while at Sandy Bay Stables for Chloe's birthday party!" "Thanks so much for your hospitality and attention to detail it was greatly appreciated!" "The girls were smiling from ear to ear all the way back to Marblehead! Thank you!" | December 13, 2006 To Whom It May Concern: Please accept this letter of unequivocal support and recommendation for Krissie and Danny Burnham as owners and managers of Sandy Bay Stables in Rockport, Massachusetts. I have boarded my horse at Sandy Bay Stables for approximately four months now, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the care and attention the Burnham’s have given to my horse and the unending support that they have provided to me. The Burnham’s are top notch horse persons. Above and beyond their national renown as champions in their respective Appaloosa riding disciplines, Krissie and Danny are truly and obviously passionate about horses. They can be found at the barn for hours on end at various times of the day (and night). They are always open to questions and always willing to help. For example, I discovered a cut on my horse’s leg one evening, and when I asked Danny to look at it, he not only looked, but hosed the leg down, wrapped it, checked it later that night and in the morning, and called me with an update. Similarly, just the other night I had a concern about my horse’s eating (after he had been seen by the vet) and called Krissie who not only accepted my call late at night, but walked me through a thorough check of my horse. She then checked on him later that night and in the morning, and emailed me an update. This is care, attention and support that I did not expect, but that I will be eternally grateful for. In addition to my own experiences at Sandy Bay Stables, other boarders are clearly happy with their experiences as well. We all enjoy spending time at the barn with our horses and each other. The Burnham’s have made Sandy Bay Stables a fun, inviting and educational place to be. For example, they have sponsored Friday night events during which we watch horse training videos, discuss the techniques and just enjoy each others’ company. Trail rides with each other are becoming a habit among Sandy Bay Stables riders, and the Burnham’s have even trailered our horses to Bradley Palmer State Park for a wonderful Sunday ride. Finally, in addition to their own expertise, the Burnham’s have also enlisted other experts to the Sandy Bay Stables team. I have recently begun working with their newly acquired riding instructor/horse trainer, and my horse and I have progressed tremendously in just a matter of weeks. It appears that word of the Sandy Bay Stables lesson program is getting around as I have heard through the grapevine (actually, from a local chiropractor) that people are enjoying their lessons, and I have witnessed new students come in to the program and glow with pride as they learn new skills on horseback. Overall, from my personal experience and from what I observe and hear from others, it is clear that Sandy Bay Stables, as is run by Krissie and Danny Burnham, is an asset to the community, and one that I truly hope will continue to flourish for decades to come. Sincerely, E.W., Rockport |
December 28, 2007 To Whom It May Concern: I have ridden at Rowe’s farm at 29 Jerdens Lane since I was a child. Now it's called Sandy Bay Stables. It’s been decades that I remain involved with horses. When the Rowe’s sold the farm to the previous owners who had the farm for about 6 years, the farm fell apart. The previous owners did not seem to have the management skills, horse knowledge, or enthusiasm to keep boarders content. I moved my horse away from there along with everyone else. The farm sort of died. Since the Burnhams’ ownership of the farm, I was so happy to return when Krissie Burnham called and invited me back. I feel as if I’ ve returned “home” for good. The atmosphere is run in a professional manner where I’m confident of the knowledge that the Burnham’s possess surrounding horses. The organized activities by the Burnham’s have been educational and fun! The Burnham’s organized social events are extremely important to people with horses. It’s been like a support group or a new ‘club’ for horse owners. The Burnham’s dedication and passion about the horse farm is clearly evident. They are at the farm many times in the day and also every night. They have unbelievable work ethics. They are there even when they are not on the “work schedule”. It’s apparent that having fun with your horse is a goal that the Burnham’s share. They also take the time to listen to people so they feel heard. Even though the Burnham’s are world level competitors and champions, they ride with us and act like the rest of us. Some of us never competed in anything with our horses. I think the fact that the Burnham’s ride with the boarders, socialize with the boarders, participate in activities with us and so forth has been helpful for barn morale and growth. The Burnham’s are good, honest people and make you feel like family. They also have even gone as far as generously sharing their world famous horse(s) with the boarders just so the boarders can hop on and feel what it is like to ride a world champion in western pleasure or to ride a champion stallion in high-speed gaming! Now that I am back “home” I have no intentions of moving again. This farm is coming BACK TO LIFE and I’m happy to be part of it . I can’t thank the Burnham’s enough for bringing “life” back to our “old” home. Rockport is as it should be. Sincerely, Lyndsey P., Gloucester |
| Attention Horse People!! It is with great pleasure that I am writing to endorse the Burnham’s and Sandy Bay Stables. For the last 25 years, I have owned horses and competed on several show circuits. I also have owned my own horse farm for 15 years. I hope my perspective will be helpful to you as you consider Sandy Bay Stables for your boarding and training needs. My first contact with Krissie Burnham was in 2002 when she and her husband were competing on the regional show circuit with Appaloosas. The Burnham’s love for horses, passion for competition, and big smiles is was what drew me to them at first. Although competitors against one another, it was easy to become fast friends with Krissie. She is honest, very open, caring, and has good family values. Come to find out, she is a full-time social worker who has dedicated her life to making a difference in the world through her job. She is well-known for her work in helping families who struggle with children who have mental health challenges. Dan is a talented carpenter and also well-known. And together they have three charming sons. In addition to the Burnham’s life- long experience and expert knowledge of horses, their other professional skills compliment their horse farm ownership. I live far away from Sandy Bay Stables, but I have been invited on many occasions. Every time I visit, I am impressed by the constant upgrading and improvements for the horses and boarders. For example, on one visit, I was very impressed to see a new “Media” room furnished with cherry wood cabinets, glass coffee table, rugs, and couches. On my last visit, I think I was in the best remodeled tack room that I’ve ever been in with a fabulous view of the indoor. My visits prior to those when the farm was somewhat newly acquired, I noticed new footing in the indoor, improvements on the outdoor ring, brand new fencing, more turnout areas, and also stall enhancements. The Burnham’s priority then and always is, “HORSES COME FIRST.” I’ve been known to be very 'picky' when it comes to my horses’ and their care. I love them and they cost me a fortune. If I ever needed to board my horses anywhere in the country, I would feel the safest and most comfortable leaving them in the care of Krissie and Danny at Sandy Bay Stables. Without a doubt, my horses would enjoy the good life and have all of their needs met at Sandy Bay. Ever hear of the term, ‘you get what you pay for?’ If you have really cheap board somewhere, good for you. But you and I both know what you are getting for that, or shall I say not getting. As do people who live in low income housing or people that live in really nice homes. There is added quality as the dollars increase, right? For example, an indoor versus no indoor, social events or none, more care versus less horse care, all day turnouts or not, pasture or dirt, etc. Well, you don't want to hear this part, but I have mentioned to the Burnham’s that they aren’t charging enough. But they won't listen to me. They won’t raise their rates enough to reflect today’s tough economy crunch. They tell me that they do everything they can to keep costs as low as they can for everyone. So the phrase in this case does not ring true because in boarding at Sandy Bay Stables, you get more than what you pay for! What’s unique about Sandy Bay Stables is that Krissie is the “Martha Stewart” of barns. An instructor called her that nickname recently. They are always busy with riding clinics, demonstrations, ladies’ movie nights, kid's horse movies, attending events together as a group, having riding video sessions, throwing Halloween bashes, Christmas Yankee swap parties and much more! The riders at Sandy Bay are very lucky to be part of such an enthusiastic and positive environment! But the horses at Sandy Bay are the luckiest! Yours truly, J.S., Virginia |

| Dear Sandy Bay Stables, Thank you so much for offering the Intensive Centered Riding Clinic on Sunday! What a fabulous opportunity to learn “in our bones” what centered riding feels like. It felt like a whole new way of riding! I really loved how you structured all the exercises, Anya, and how they built on each other. It was great to experiment and feel the difference it made in partnering with our horses! And Krissie, thank you for videotaping us. As much as we groaned about seeing ourselves on tape, it’s so useful to see with our own eyes what we are feeling in our bodies! Thanks also for setting up SBS so we had time to relax, watch the tape, and process and discuss all that we had learned. Lunch was delicious! I hope we have the chance to experience more clinics at SBS. If anyone wants to know more about what it was like to participate in the clinic, please have them call me! Warmly, Leslie 978-546-1188 |
